Boymongoose Music Video release

Hey Guys,

Sorry I haven't been posted much recently, been really busy and exciting news are coming really soon!!
In the meantime here is the long awaited new music video from the Boymongoose band.
Jarrod Elvin, James Lee and myself animated this clip sometime last year, and now that it is Christmas time the video has been released via Youtube and Revver and is doing very well.

(I was responsible for the leadsinger lipsynch and did some of the wicked dance moves (check out that moonwalk!) and also did Paula Abdul and some of the crazy groupies in the crowd)

Back From China!!

Hey Guys or should I say Niao!

A little update on our Beijing Trip, We had the BEST time ever!! A truly unforgettable experience:
We got to meet talented filmmakers from around the world. Sightseeing (Included the Great wall, Forbidden city, summer Palace, Pandas at the Beijing zoo...) and experiencing the Chinese culture, food and people was awesome.
We got a rockstar treatment with an awesome staff taking care of us, and we'd like to thank everyone of them for such a great experience.
Poles Apart got a great response from both the audience and other filmmakers and raised interesting issues and questions during a Q&A that followed our screening.
Our schoolmate Benjamin Zaugg picked an audience award for his film "The Room", Congrats to him, he really deserved it!
The best of all was seeing so much enthusiasm during the festival from the local audience, who filled up the cinema for each and every screening!!
Stay tune for heaps of photos and a video summary of our Trip!!

Cheers (Xie Xie)!

week04-05-06

Hey guys,

Haven't had time to update my progress for my internship for a couple of weeks, so here goes:

The last 3 weeks have been pretty busy and lately time has been flying at superspeed. I am actually almost at the end of the internship and am really happy to have been offered a position to continue to work there as a casual . The project we've been mainly working on is due at the end of the year so I'm really glad to be able to continue working on that.

The atmosphere and working environment in the studio is very pleasant and it's good to look forward to work. I'm also enjoying the other parts of it, taking the train every morning with Steve and observing so many different kinds of people, sometime sketching a few standouts too:)
It's also fun to go out for lunch in the valley, because of the cheap food and variety of places to eat too.

As far as work goes, it's been great to work on illustrations that need abit of time to refine, and also working with Steve and trying to emulate his style is quite challenging, but I found that asking for his feedback helps for the readjustments and will hopefully keep everything consistent. And I need to work on my colours too as I'm not completely satisfied with them yet.
I also need to write a small essay to summarize my intern experience, so I'll probably post that here too!

I will keep on updating you further eventhough my intenrship is coming to an end:)

Peace out,

Paul,

Internship Placement/ Week02&03

Hey guys,

Just a little update regarding my internship, It is going really well and I am very fortunate to work on such interesting projects. I spoke to one of the Flash programmers that mentioned how much fun it is to work on something you like doing. The last two weeks went really well and I have been working on a couple of projects. One of them is the 2nd version of a game called Jumporama: http://www.horseridingcoach.com/jumporama/
I have been working on the graphics for the new game; so new bgds and new jumps for a more cross country version this time... will let you know when it goes live:)
The other project is still top secret but involved surfing so needless to say, I like it:D

Was also introduced to the SVN files which is basically a way of sharing the files you are working on with colleagues, so that you can access eachother's updated files.

I also learned about designing/animating for games which means using alot more Movieclips in Flash and making sure they loop properly.
It is a different way to approach your animation, because you need to think not only what looks/feels good but how is it gonna work with the game and in harmony with the user's gameplay.

Okay until next week!

Internship Placement/ Week01

Hello Bloggers,

Here is my first weekly report of my internship (it's a course requirement to give a weekly 200 words, but hopefully I'll make it interesting and insightful for you guys :)

This 1st week was actually really great; fun and interesting! I'm doing my internship over at QMG (Queensland Media Group) Check out their website: http://www.qmg.com.au/

This a nice little studio based in the valley and is a great opportunity for me to have a look and a better understanding of a well functioning studio within the industry. So far I'll be going there on Mondays and Tuesdays which works pretty well with my busy schedule of teaching flash classes at Uni, Working on my Honours film and finishing up my thesis :)

1st day of Internship I got introduced to the staff: So my mate Steve works there and I'll be helping him with his work, He's working on an interesting project which I won't be talking about too much in detail because I have signed a confidentiality agreement :)

The rest of the staff @ QMG is the 3 directors: so Dave, Greg and Chris who started the company. Other staff is the Webdesigner Kas and Peter who both are working on some crazy coding thing that I can't begin to understand but would be interesting to ask them in the long run how it works...

Anyway there are more people working on Flash scripting and Php that I have yet to meet so probably 5 to 8 people in the studio on a regular basis.

1st and 2nd day I got into work, Got introduced to the Management System of the files and the calendars system to get everyone on schedule to sort of make it easy to manage your individual workload.

Excellent, looking forward to week 02 so keep tuned!

Greatest book for anyone interested in a career in Animation!!

I came across this great book by David Levy at the QCA library recently; I strongly recommend it, it's a goldmine of information and especially years of experience shared by industry professionals!
The do and dont's of the bussiness and stuff that would probably take you decades to figure out are shared and explained in one chapter...

5 stars!
